Artistic Statement

In my artwork I explore the unconscious side of the human being. Working with dreams, memory and human gesture, technologically I confront new media in the installation realm. I have specialized in photography and video as languages of the contemporary arts, developing a very complex matrix of relations between art and science.

In relation to themes I cover a wide range of subjects. Time, history and travel are perhaps my mayor obsessions. Social causes and public space are also part of my interests. At present, and influenced by a new constellation of experiences related to migration, my work has turned into a continuous translation from the inner self-reflections and the external world, which outcome is a multilayered body of works.

At present I am developing the projects “On the Archeology of traveling”,” Lost Translations” and “Palimpsests”, works that touch systematically thematics as exile, historiography and travel, from a analytical post-colonial dynamic and framed in a constant search inside the videographic image.

Propuesta artística:

En mi obra plástica exploro el lado inconciente del ser humano. Trabajando con sueños, memoria y gesto utilizo la tecnología al confrontar nuevos medios en ámbitos instalativos. Me he especializado en fotografía y video como lenguajes de las artes contemporáneas, desarrollando una compleja matriz de relaciones entre arte y ciencia.

En relación con las temáticas presentes en las diferentes obras, cubro un amplio espectro de sujetos; tiempo, historia y viaje son quizás mis mayores obsesiones. Las causas sociales y el espacio público son también parte de mi interés. En el presente e influenciada por una constelación de nuevas experiencias relacionadas con la migración, mi obra se ha transformado en una traducción continua entre mis reflexiones internas y el mundo exterior, cuyo resultado es un cuerpo de trabajo de múltiples capas.

Actualmente me encuentro desarrollando los proyectos “Arqueología del viaje”, “Traducciones extraviadas” y “Palimpsestos”. Obras que abordan sistemáticamente problemas como el exilio, la historiografía y el viaje, desde una dinámica de analisis post-colonialista, enmarcada, siempre, en una constante búsqueda dentro de la imagen videográfica.

Ha realizado numerosas exposiciones colectivas e individuales con participaciones en ciudades como Bruselas, Salzburg, Hallein, Miami, Belgadro, Budapest entre otras. En el contexto venezolano ha participado en numerosas exhibiciones obteniendo consecutivamente los premios máximos del 62 Salón Nacional Arturo Michelena y VIII Salon CANTV Jóvenes con FIA. Es citada en publicaciones como: 21 Mujeres fotografas Venezolanas /M.T. Boulton, Fotografía en Venezuela 1960-2000 / J.C. Palenzuela y Mapas Abiertos: Fotografía Latinoamericana 1991-2002 / Alejandro Castellote. Actualmente reside en Weimar donde trabaja como artista independiente.

She is mentioned in publications like: 21 Venezuelan Women Photographers/M.T. Boulton, Photography in Venezuela 1960-2000/J.C. Palenzuela and Open Maps: Latinoamerican Photography 1991-2002/Alejandro Castellote. At present she resides in Weimar. Germany, where she works as independent artist.
